The wife of US President Donald Trump appeared to skip not make the trip to Osaka, despite regularly being by the side of her husband for foreign visits throughout his three years in office. Mr Trup’s daughter Ivanka is also in Osaka for the summit with her husband Jared Kushner. In the first lady’s absence, the wives of the world leader’s stunned as they posed for ‘family photo’ at the Tofuku-ji Temple in Kyoto yesterday. The wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, Brigitte, the wife of Argentinian President Mauricio Macri Juliana, 44 and the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s wife Sophie were among those in attendance.

Theresa May’s husband was also among the guests as the Prime Minister embarked on her final summit as leader.

Meanwhile Mr Trump was not alone on the overseas trip as he was joined by his daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

The White House aides also posed with him for the official welcome photo.

Mr Trump opened the summit by meeting with the host, Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe, followed by Indian prime minister Narendra Modi and German chancellor Angela Merkel.

The divisive US president sounded optimistic about inking trade deals with all three and praised alliances he has strained in the past.

Mr Trump also met Russian president Vladimir Putin for their first sit-down since the Mueller report into Russian inference in the 2016 US election was published.

The two leaders traded brief remarks on about issues they planned to discuss when a reporter shouted to Mr Trump about warning Mr Putin “not to meddle” in the 2020 election.

The president answered “of course” before he turned to Mr Putin and said: “Don’t meddle in the election.”

Mrs May also met with Mr Putin and condemned the leader’s “irresponsible” actions in a frosty meeting between the two leaders dominated by exchanges about the Salisbury nerve agent attack.

The Prime Minister was stony faced as she shook hands with the Russian president before talks in which she told him the use of the Novichok nerve agent in the Wiltshire city was a “truly despicable act”, Moscow has always denied any involvement.
