Tottenham target Giovani Lo Celso can outshine Christian Eriksen as Pochettino plots move

That’s the view of South American football expert Tim Vickery.

Lo Celso enjoyed an impressive season in the heart of midfield for Real Betis last season and is being linked with a move to Spurs.

Betis have set their price for the midfielder at £88m while Spurs have had a bid of £53m rejected already.

Lo Celso, who is also impressing for Argentina at the Copa America this summer, scored 16 goals and registered 11 assists last term.

And Vickery believes the Argentine can have a bigger impact at Tottenham than Eriksen, who looks set for a move away from north London.

“He’s a very, very talented left-footed playmaker, you can certainly see the reason behind the Tottenham connection, with Christian Eriksen perhaps looking to move on,” he told Sky Sports News.

“Lo Celso would bring some of the things that Christian Eriksen brings, with perhaps a little bit more dynamism, maybe not as deadly as the Dane from set-pieces, but more dynamism over the field.

“He had a terrific season for Real Betis.”

Vickery also noted that Lo Celso and Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino are from the same region in Argentina and would link up well.

“There’s a nice link as well with Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino, because they come from the same region.

“They’ll have to pay for him, Betis paid out to acquire him in order to make a big profit on him.

“There’ll be some long, hot summer negotiations going on with that one, but he would be a good fit for Tottenham.”

Lo Celso is at Betis on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, where he failed to assert himself as a top player.

But Betis activated a clause in the loan contract which will see Lo Celso become a Los Verdiblancos player on July 1 – but perhaps not for too long.

“He is a very demanded player and wanted by clubs in Europe and we we are very pleased with him, we would like him to continue here at least some more year, but summer will be very busy in this regard,” Betis president Angel Haro said.
