Fast and Furious is one of the most commercially successful film franchises to date. Currently, the car-racing franchise ranks as the ninth-highest-grossing film series of all time. The series has a combined gross of over $£3.94 billion ($5 billion) as it heads into its ninth instalment.
Is Jordana Brewster returning as Mia?
When Paul Walker died in 2013, the Fast and Furious franchise was able to write his character Brian out in a meaningful way.
With Walker went his wife Mia and son, played by Jordana Brewster and the Kimsey Twins.
However, Vin Diesel recently posted a photo to Instagram revealing the star will return to the franchise.
Fans are also wondering how Brian’s fate will be dealt with in the ninth film.
In Furious 7, Brian finishes the film committing to his retirement to spend time with his family.
For his wife and son to return, abandoning Brian for all intents and purposes opens up a plot problem.
Given fans were moved by the way Brian’s exit was dealt, it is unlikely they would kill the character off now.
In all likelihood, Mia will return for a cameo or relatively small role in comparison.
Who else stars in Fast and Furious 9?
Vin Diesel reprises his role as Dominic Toretto with Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz.
Nathalie Emmanuel plays Ramsey, with John Cena joining in an unnamed role.
Tyrese Gibson returns as Roman Pearce with Ludacris as Tej Parker.
Enrique Guzman plays Simon Toretto, with Lex Elle as Sergeant Reyes, and Krzysztof ‘Kris’ Mardula, and Alexander Wraith.
As for the plot, director F Gary Gray told ScreenRant: “Outer space? Listen, I wouldn’t rule anything out with this franchise.
“When I read ‘submarine’ in Fast & Furious 8, I’m like, ‘OK, anything’s possible’.
“You never know. I haven’t read ‘Dom on Mars’ yet, but again, you just never know.”
Fast and Furious 9 is scheduled for release in the UK on May 22, 2020.
