AJ Styles challenged to a WrestleMania dream match by this WWE legend after injury return

Mysterio and Styles have received plenty of glowing comparisons throughout their legendary careers and many have been wanting to see them lock up due to their similar highflying styles.

The Phenomenal One recently identified the Master of the 619 as a dream opponent but insists that the WWE Universe will first have to get behind that fantasy bout before it’s booked.

Styles said: “I’ve had a lot of dream matches here, but it isn’t up to me, it’s the WWE Universe and what they want, their dream match.

“They’re spending hard-earned money to see these dream matches, so I want to be sure I give that to them.

“I have yet to be able to get in there with Rey Mysterio like I would like to because I know how good he is.”

Mysterio shares the same sentiment and believes a fight between them “could go down in the history books”.

The former world champions battled each other once at 5 Star Wrestling in Sheffield and Styles picked up the win with a devastating Styles Clash.

But Mysterio is keen for a rematch and this time he wants it to take place at a much larger stage, like WrestleMania.

The three-time world champion told Wrestling Inc: “That’s a very big statement coming from AJ.

“Although we’ve been wrestling for the same amount of time, AJ was never part of the WWE until recently.

“So, I would really love to throw down with AJ and not just in a regular stage, but a big state like WrestleMania.

“I think that’s one of the matches that could go down in the history books.”

Mysterio has been sidelined with a separated AC joint in his left shoulder after beating Samoa Joe for the US Championship at Money in the Bank.

Styles returned to action last Monday night on RAW after overcoming a shoulder injury of his own.

The two-time world champion defeated new US Champion Ricochet in a non-title match and is soon expected to reform The Club with Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson.
