The Memphis Grizzlies made point guard Delon Wright a restricted free agent by extending a qualifying offer Wednesday, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported.
The Grizzlies will have the chance to match any offer sheet Wright receives from another NBA team during free agency, which begins Sunday.
Wright, 27, averaged 12.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.6 steals in 26 games (11 starts) with the Grizzlies after arriving in the Feb. 7 trade that sent veteran center Marc Gasol to the Toronto Raptors. He averaged 8.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.2 steals in 75 games (13 starts) over the full season between the two teams.
If Wright returns to Memphis in 2019-20, his role would likely be reduced by the arrival of point guard Ja Morant as the No. 2 overall pick in the draft earlier this month.
