The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) gives Yesterday a rating of 12A.

A 12A rating means: “Films classified 12A and video works classified 12 contain material that is not generally suitable for children aged under 12.

“No one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult.”

In the case of Yesterday, the BBFC cites infrequent strong language, drug references, moderate sex references as the reasoning behind its rating.

The infrequent strong language includes ‘f***’ and partial use of ‘motherf*****’.

The BBFC added: “Use of milder terms includes ‘hell’, ‘bloody’, ‘crap’, ‘damn’, ‘s**t’, ‘numpty’, ‘ass’, and ‘sod’.

“There are moderate drug references in which a man refers to using bongs and being famous for taking drugs.

“When one character searches for the drink Coke online, he is confronted with images of the drug.

“There are references to people making love, use of the term ‘shag’, and a comic reference to incest.

“A man wakes up in hospital after being hit by a bus with mild injury detail to his face.”

The Motion Picture Association of America gave it a PG-13 rating.

PG-13 means: “Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.

Yesterday has a runtime of one hour and 56 minutes.
