Donald Trump news: Trump signs new communications director – who is Stephanie Grisham?

Donald and Melania Trump announced the replacement for outgoing White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckerby Sanders via Twitter today. Melania Trump said her staffer Stephanie Grisham would sign on as the newest Press Secretary. She has been communications director for the First Lady for the past two years. However, the President made a few tweaks to the position before Ms Grisham joined on.

Melania Trump revealed President Trump’s new press representative via Twitter earlier this evening.

She wrote: “I am pleased to announce @StephGrisham45 will be the next @PressSec & Comms Director!

“She has been with us since 2015 – @potus & I can think of no better person to serve the Administration & our country.

“Excited to have Stephanie working for both sides of the @WhiteHouse.”

Who is Stephanie Grisham?

Stephanie Grisham is the designate Press Secretary under Donald Trump, and will officially take the role on July 1.

She started with the President from early on in his 2015 campaign and is one of his longest-serving personnel.

Ms Grisham was a spokeswoman for the American Automobile Association (AAA) before her first role as a Republican mouthpiece.

The 42-year-old first represented the Republican Party as a spokeswoman for Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne, and later Arizona House Speaker David Gowan.

In 2012, she worked for Barack Obama rival Mitt Romney, in his second bid for president.

She took a high-profile role coordinating Pope Francis’s visit to Philadelphia in 2015, and then took leave from David Gowan’s office to join the fledgeling Trump campaign.

After Mr Trump took office in 2017, she was appointed Deputy Press Secretary under Sean Spicer.

Since March 2017, she served in the East Wing of the White house as Melania Trump’s Press Secretary, a move of which Mr Trump was allegedly remorseful.

Ms Grimsham dealt primarily with deflecting criticism directed at Melania Trump and defending the First Lady.

She also aided the FLOTUS’ PR on her opposing views to the President, and silence in the face of infidelity accusations towards Mr Trump, which the President denies.

Her new job comes with a slew of extra responsibilities and will see Ms Grisham remain Press Secretary to Mrs Trump, an unprecedented dual-role in this administration.
