Huawei P30 Pro: Here's your first look at this phone's biggest update yet

P30 Pro was unwrapped by Huawei back in March; the hardware is most notable for its quad camera system that is easily one of the most diverse on the market.

The flagship also comes with a rapid processor, a humungous battery and a gorgeous design.

Huawei’s handset launched running Android 9 Pie with the firm’s own EMUI 9.1 skin running on top of it.

Until recently, it had been expected the flagship would receive an upgrade to Google’s newest version of Android, Q, anticipated to release later this year.

However, the future of substantial operating system updates coming to the P30 Pro was made uncertain following the Trump administration’s decision to place Huawei Technologies Co Ltd on a trade blacklist.

This put a number of restrictions in place with regard to how US companies are able to interact with Huawei.

Following the move, Google soon suspended the Chinese tech giant’s Android licence.

While the block has since been delayed until August 19, it had put the possibility of Android Q arriving for the smartphone in doubt.

However, Huawei recently expressed its confidence the P30 series would “be able to access Android Q” and emphasised “technical preparations and testing” had already begun for over 17 of its devices.

Discussing the matter, the OEM said: “We are confident that our most popular devices, including the P30 series, will be able to access Android Q.

“We have been working with third parties for many months to ensure devices will be able to receive Android Q updates.

“Technical preparations and testing has already begun for over 17 devices.

“In fact our Mate 20 Pro has already been given approval to receive Android Q as and when it is released by Google.”

Ahead of Android Q’s release, XDA Developers managed to download an early version for the P30 Pro and posted screenshots of it in action.

It was noted a new version of Huawei’s EMUI skin, 10, would run on top of Android Q.

Many aspects of the software were shown to look incredibly similar to EMUI 9.1 that debuted earlier this year.

However, the camera application appeared to have received a substantial design overhaul; white, black and red appeared to be the only colours used by the application.

As was the case previously, swiping from left to right was highlighted to act as a control to switch between different camera modes.

One of the biggest changes shown to be be present in EMUI 10 was a host of new permissions settings, a standout feature from Android Q.

This feature provides fans with more control over their data.

Now, users have an option to let an app only collect information data when it is being used, rather than being faced with a binary yes or no option.

As noted by XDA Developers, it is likely EMUI 10 running on top of Android Q has a number of other important features that are not accessible at this point.

It is expected if Android Q does arrive for the P30 Pro later this year it will be the biggest update for the Chinese flagship yet.
