Star Wars 9 Rise of Skywalker: Does THIS show the return of SNOKE?

The First Order Supreme Leader was one of the most divisive figures on the new trilogy. His appearance and backstory were teased relentlessly before the rug was shockingly pulled in The Last Jedi. rather like recent rumblings over major moments during the end of Game of Thrones on HBO, it was a great cinematic twist, but many fans felt like they had been trolled, encouraged to invest heavily in a character and storyline which ultimately did not pay off. Is director JJ Abrams restoring some of his original plans in Episode IX?

It seems clear Abrams had one vision for many major storylines in The Force Awakens which Rian Johnson subverted in The Last Jedi.

Johnson recently said he would not care if Abrams then did the same again to his plotlines in The Rise of Skywalker.

Eagle-eyed fans believe a scene in the new Oculus video game Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series, shows Snoke talking to Darth Vader. The scene appears to be on Mustafar and ties in with the recent Vader comics which showed Vader seeking ways to bring Padme back.

Was Snoke manipulating him back then? Scroll down to watch the scene.

STAR WARS 9: ‘PALPATINE WAS MANIPULATING REY SINCE SHE WAS A SMALL GIRL’

A Reddit theory suggests Snoke has been involved longer than believed, during the events between the Prequel and Original Trilogies and onwards, building to a dramatic battle between Luke and Snoke/ which explains The Supreme Leader’s terrible scars.

It says: “What if in Episode 9 we see a flashback of Luke confronting Snoke AFTER the Jedi Temple has fallen. He has realized that Snoke is not a benevolent force user, but rather a corrupting force of evil. The idea is that Luke figures out Snoke is evil and must be defeated, leading to an epic battle between the two. The only reason Luke doesn’t kill Snoke right then is because Kylo Ren intervenes to save his Sith master.

This theory would certainly help to explain some of Snoke’s backstory in the Star Wars franchise. How did Snoke get all those face scars? Was it from a battle with Luke? These questions might be answered during potential flashbacks, and the Vader Immortal scene only seems to confirm that the Supreme Leader has been around even longer than we thought.”

It’s an intriguing idea.

Of course, it is impossible to tell who Vader is actually speaking to in the scene. Yes, the figure appears to be tall, pale and bald, wearing gold robes – but it could also be wearing a face shroud and the gold could be the glow from the artefact screen in front of Vader.

Perhaps Luke, Palpatine and hopefully Vader are already quite enough for Star Wars 9…
