Star Wars 9 Rise of Skywalker: Mark Hamill teases Luke Skywalker Force Ghost RETURN

The Last Jedi may have seen the death of Luke Skywalker, but not his end. After all, the Jedi Master became one with the Force when he disappeared, just like Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope. Now Hamill is returning for follow-up and sequel trilogy conclusion, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Fans have speculated if he will only appear in flashbacks or as a Force Ghost and now he’s confirmed at least the latter.

Speaking with Associated Press Entertainment, Hamill said he hopes The Rise of Skywalker is his last Star Wars film.

The 67-year-old said: “I sure hope so… Well, because… I had closure in The Last Jedi.

“The fact that I’m involved in any capacity is only because of that peculiar aspect of the Star Wars mythology where if you’re a Jedi, you get to come back and make a curtain call as a Force Ghost.”

So far the only shot of Luke from the movie that’s been made public is from a flashback.

Shown with R2-D2 and surrounded by flames, it looks very similar to a scene from Rey’s Forceback vision in The Force Awakens.

Aside from this, it sounds like his Force Ghost appearance will only be a cameo.

Speaking with Den of Geek in March, Hamill said: “They killed me off.

“I thought, ‘Oh, okay, you should push my death off to the last one.’ That’s what I was hoping when I came back: no cameos and a run-of-the-trilogy contract.”

Hamill added: “Did I get any of those things? Because as far as I’m concerned, the end of [Star Wars] VII is really the beginning of VIII.

“I got one movie! They totally hornswoggled [tricked] me.”

By the sounds of it, Hamill will only feature as Luke’s Force ghost in a few scenes.

Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker will be released in UK cinemas on December 19, 2019.
