Neighbours spoilers: ‘Some regret’ Paul Robinson star speaks out on Sonya Rebecchi exit

Sonya Rebecchi (Eve Morey) passed away earlier this year in a heartbreaking storyline that saw her lose her battle with cancer.

However Neighbours star Eve did not choose to leave the soap when she was written out and the soap bosses’ decision to axe her was met with controversy.

Now Paul Robinson star Stefan Dennis has spoken out and hinted that producers may regret their decision after Eve was nominated for two Logie Awards.

Since leaving the show Eve has been nominated for Most Popular Actress and the prestigious Gold Logie.

Discussing the controversial decision, he said: “I think in hindsight, they’re now going, ‘Oops!”

“There is possibly some regret among the powers that be with regard to the decision, especially as Eve is shortlisted for the Gold Logie which is a public vote.

“It was a big shock to the cast and took us a long time to get over – myself, Ryan Moloney, Alan Fletcher, and Jackie Woodburne marched to the office and said, “‘You cant’t do this’.

“They explained it was out of their hands.”

Although she will be unable to return to Neighbours on the screen Dennis did add that the Eve star is now working behind-the-scenes.

He continued: “Eve will not be forgotten, and the lovely thing is, she’s an acting coach on the show now, so we still get to see her and she’s doing what she’s very good at, which is mentoring people.”

Co-host Michael Ball jumped in and asked: “Are you still technically married to Charlene?”

Jason continued: “I think we still live in Brisbane and I think the last time I was on this show I met as a character my daughter in fact who was playing Scott and Charlene’s daughter.”

Praising the show, he added: “Look, what an incredible institution, Neighbours has been a wonderful launching pad for many careers.

“Not just actors, but producers, people that work behind the camera, operators, directors, the whole lot. I’m really proud of that legacy.”

Could Jason make a dramatic return to the Australian soap and rock the lives of those on Ramsay Street?

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.
