Good Omens, which is based on Terry Pratchett’s fantasy novel launched on Amazon Prime at the end of last month with a cast including Michael Sheen and David Tenant.
Directed by Neil Gaiman, who also worked on American Gods, the series has been a hit with many fans.
However, a petition has been launched calling for the series to be cancelled and to be removed from Netflix.
Christian campaign site Return to Order set up the petition, which now has over 20,000 signatures.
The site has claimed the show “mocked God’s wisdom” and presenting “devils and Satanists as normal and even gods”.
Fans of the series have been quick to point out the petition is calling for Netflix to cut the show from its streaming site despite it actually airing on Amazon Prime.
Director Neil made light of the situation, sharing on his Twitter page: “I love that they are going to write to Netflix to try and get #GoodOmens cancelled. Says it all really.”
He later asked fans: “This is so beautiful… Promise me you won’t tell them?”
As many fans do enjoy Good Omens, Neil has opened up on the show revealing there was a major scene, which was almost deleted.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, he explained: “There was one sequence which I made sure was in [the show] because – Terry had written the Agnes Nutter sequence – the death by burning, and the explosion – and I wanted that in there because it was Terry’s.”
The scene in question sees Agnes being discovered a witch and put to death by being burnt at the stake.
Before she was killed, there was a sequence which told Agnes’ history and how she wrote The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch.
But it seems producers weren’t too keen on the scenes.
“We had some producers who thought maybe we could cut that sequence, and replace it with some wood cuts and a narrator,” Neil revealed.
“So I checked in with the imaginary Terry Pratchett on my shoulder – and none of the replies he gave me were printable.”
Neil decided he wouldn’t allow the sequence to be changed or taken out.
“I went back to the producers and let them know: ‘No that would be staying,’” he commented.
“We would find the money to do it, and find trims elsewhere, and so on, but that sequence would be staying.”
Neil has also revealed he doesn’t think he would return for another series.
“It’s time for me to go back and be a novelist,” he told Express.co.uk.
