Apex Legends update today: New Legends PC patch and Season 2 news

Today has seen a new Apex Legends update released on the Origin PC platform.

Respawn Entertainment announced the launch on Reddit, confirming that new patch is a test run for a broader launch.

Here’s more from Respawn, who confirmed in a new post: “Why only PC? We want to test these changes before putting them out on all platforms.

“We’ll be continuing to monitor data and player feedback, and if we’re seeing improvement with these changes, we’ll roll them out for PS4 and Xbox at the launch of Season 2.

Today’s Apex update looks to fix a number of issues currently affecting the game, including data centre issues.

The process has been seen as somewhat confusing, and it appears the development team are trying to make it easier to understand.

This will mean the current listing options using ping by default, with a number of other changes being worked on too.

Respawn is also looking into problems connected to Code Leaf error messages which have been hitting fans trying to play the game.

“There is still some work to do on our end to nail down what is causing this error,” the message from Respawn adds.

“In this patch we’re adding more telemetry to help us identify specifically how this error is being caused.

“You may start to get a code:net error instead of code:leaf. That is intended and part of the telemetry we added. We’ll be continuing to investigate this issue and it remains a priority.”

Patch notes for today’s Apex Legends PC update can be found below:

  • Datacenter improvements to make the list easier to understand and use:
  • List will be sorted by ping by default.
  • The selected data center will be highlighted in orange.
  • Focused/hovered data centers will still be highlighted in grey.
  • Right clicking a data center will no longer make it look selected
  • Right click wouldn’t actually select the data center but would still highlight the selection which could be confusing.
  • Clients will now send user input to the server at a higher rate.
  • Code: Leaf error

As mentioned above, these new changes could be added to the known list of updates coming with the launch of Apex Legends Season 2.

Early patch notes have already been shared, including updates on the new L-STAR weapon and additional hop-ups being added to the game.

We now know that the new L-STAR weapon will only spawn in airdrops and comes with a limited ammo supply that can’t be refilled.

“This season we’re introducing the L-STAR, a rare and powerful LMG. This weapon fires large, high-damage plasma projectiles at a fast cyclic rate,” a new message from Respawn explains.

“The L-STAR is joining the Mastiff and Kraber in airdrop packages, and quite frankly, it’s a beast.

”The L-STAR’s unique projectiles are much larger than those fired by other weapons in Apex. Players need to lead targets more at range to compensate for the L-STAR’s slower projectiles, but on the flip side, they don’t have to aim quite as precisely to get good effect on the target.

“All this plasma-fueled power comes at a price: the L-STAR will overheat if players hold the trigger down too long. When the L-STAR overheats, its lens breaks and needs to be replaced, which takes some time. Expert players learn to feather the trigger with short/medium bursts, taking short breaks to let the weapon cool down.”
