Spider-Man Far From Home first reactions TONIGHT: Swinging success or sticky mess?

Just three weeks to go until fans get their first Marvel fix after Endgame. Full reviews are still officially embargoed but some US and UK critics have already preview screenings. The block on first official reactions, though, is lifted this evening. So, is Tom Holland’s friendly neighbourhood hero swinging to another success or has he got himself in a sticky mess?

Even tough Endgame felt like a resounding finish to the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, studio boss Kevin Feige has confirmed Spider-Man 2 brings the entire first saga to a close.

Fans now know that Peter Parker (and conveniently all his main friends) were killed in the Snap and brought back five years later, so they are all still the same age as they head off on grand European school trip.

Along the way, they will meet Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio, with most fans expecting a set-up for the Sinister Six storylines for future films.

With new leaks claiming some Marvel heroes will be “shelved” or reduced to cameos moving forward, does Spidey need to make a good showing here to ensure his place in the MCU Phases Four and beyond?

FULL REACTIONS ROUND-UP below

Uproxx said: “Absolutely loved SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME. I’m a huge Mysterio fan and Gyllenhaal nails him. Also, the movie is very clever (and funny) how it handles the fallout post ENDGAME in explaining how this world works now.”

Kevin McCarthy said; “FAR FROM HOME has dethroned Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 & is now favourite Spider-Man film. What’s insane is that I can’t even tell u why I’m so in love with this film because it would be a spoiler. Gyllenhaal is incredible. Holland re-confirms as the best Spidey to date. Amazing.”

Sean Keane at CNEY said: “I saw Spider-Man: Far From Home last night – it’s pretty much the perfect Avengers: Endgame epilogue – reminding us that the MCU goes on in a joyous, emotionally fulfilling ride.”
