iPhone SE 2 may not be coming but Apple could have something even better in store

iPhone SE 2 has been a phone many Apple fans have been dreaming about for some time.

The original iPhone SE released back in 2016 and was placed on a pedestal by a subsection of people that appreciated having a smaller smartphone.

iPhone SE boasted a similar premium build to the iPhone 5 and 5s – one of the biggest reasons to pick up the flagship was because it arrived with many flagship features present on the iPhone 6s.

Since the discontinuation of the SE, many Apple fans have been holding out hope the tech giant will release a new, smaller, iPhone with a range of contemporary features such as an all-screen design and Face ID.

While the prospect of an iPhone SE 2 has so far seemed elusive, it seems the American tech giant may soon release a premium handset with a manageable 5.4-inch display.

Such claims come by way of reputable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that declared the smaller product will form part of Apple’s 2020 lineup of devices.

Kuo declared the Cupertino-based firm will unveil three iPhones in total next year; one with a 5.4-inch screen, another with a 6.1-inch panel and a final product with a gargantuan 6.7-inch display.

The 5.4-inch and the 6.7-inch models were declared to be premium devices while the 6.1-inch variant was noted to be a “low-end” product.

This suggests the current iPhone Xs could be downsized, possibly to appease those wanting a smartphone that is easier to use with one hand.

If such claims are true, the smaller iPhone would still be larger than the iPhone SE but would surely have much-improved features when compared to the 2016 device.

Moreover, it seems the device could also be a mainline flagship rather than one sold beside Apple’s other handsets.

Meanwhile, the mentioned 6.1-inch product could be a successor to the current iPhone XR in some form.

The two premium products were stated to be capable of delivering 5G network speeds while the 6.1-inch product was stated to be limited to 4G.

An excerpt from Kuo’s latest research note discussing 2020 iPhones was showcased by MacRumors.

It read: “We expect that the new 2H20 iPhone lines will include the high-end 6.7-inch and 5.4-inch OLED iPhone models and the low-end 6.1-inch OLED iPhone.

“The 6.7-inch and 5.4-inch OLED iPhone models will likely support 5G.”

The statements from Kuo suggests next year all iPhone flavours will come with an OLED display.

Finally, the notable analyst also expressed his belief all iPhone models will tout 5G modems by 2021.

While the rumours mentioned above will surely be incredibly tantalising for fans, it is worth noting nothing about future iPhones has been officially discussed by Apple.
