New Ring Door View camera offers a cheaper way to monitor your home

Ring is no stranger to launching smart devices and the firm is back with their fifth video doorbell.

The latest gadget, called the Ring Door View Cam, offers a simple solution to monitoring the front of your home.

Unlike some of its rivals, which need a more complicated wired connection, this battery-powered camera can be easily installed over an existing door’s peephole.

Once fitted, it not only allows users to view who is outside by peering through the peephole but also via video streamed straight to smartphones.

This means you can monitor your home from anywhere in the world.

The Ring Door View Cam includes all the usual security features including two-way talk, 1080p HD video recording, privacy zones and it even works at night.

There’s also something called Knock Detection which alerts owners even if visitors don’t press the doorbell button.

Those who own an Echo speaker will find Alexa compatibility built into the Ring which allows users to ask compatible Alexa-enabled devices to “show me my front door,” and be alerted when motion is detected.

They will also be able to speak with their visitors through their Echo Show, Echo Spot, and Fire tablets with Alexa.

Like all Ring devices, you can easily fit it yourself making it much cheaper to buy and the rechargeable battery pack is now installed on the inside of the door – making it much more secure.

Speaking about the device Jamie Siminoff, Ring’s founder and Chief Inventor, said: “As we continue on our mission of reducing crime in neighbourhoods, we want everyone with a front door to have the ability to protect their property and prevent crime from taking place.

“We’ve heard from countless customers over the years who want to secure their front door with a Ring Doorbell but are not able to install one of our existing doorbells.

“With the addition of Door View Cam, we are unlocking peace of mind for every customer.”

Ring Door View Cam is now available in the US, UK, Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland with a suggested retail price of £179.
