After the record-breaking opening weekend of $1.2 billion, Avengers Endgame looked set to easily top Avatar’s $2.787 billion. However, the Marvel epic has really slowed down in recent weeks and some box office pundits are wondering if it will top the record after all. As it stands Avengers Endgame has made over $2.742 billion worldwide but still has over $45 million to go. And the latest box office news doesn’t bode well for Endgame’s record-breaking chances.
Adjusted for inflation, Avengers Endgame’s $2.7 billion is still a long way away from matching 1997’s Titanic and 2009’s Avatar.
Titanic really made around $3.099 billion, while Avatar’s equivalent is $3.273 billion.
Even so, the latter isn’t the biggest film of all time with inflation taken into account.
That would be 1939’s Gone with the Wind on $3.728 billion, a feat that will probably never be topped considering today’s battle with online piracy.
