Sarah Ferguson: Duchess of York on what life in Royal Lodge with Prince Andrew is like

Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew, both 59, have clearly remained good friends since their divorce in 1996. The couple married at Westminster Abbey back in 1986, taking on the titles of the Duke and Duchess of York. The pair had two children together: Princess Eugenie, now 29, and Princess Beatrice, 30, however Fergie and the Prince announced their separation in 1992. Despite ending things on a romantic level, they have been spotted in public together a whole host of times – such as the recent Royal Wedding of Lady Gabriella Windsor and Thomas Kingston.

Months earlier, Sarah and Prince Andrew enjoyed a weekend away in Bahrain with their eldest daughter Princess Beatrice and her boyfriend.

Despite fans hoping that it could be a sign that they may get back together, a spokesperson for Sarah confirmed: “The Duke and Duchess remain good friends as they have been for many years, and nothing has changed.”

In addition to their outings to public and royal events, Sarah and Prince Andrew are known to have lived together.

The Prince was granted a lease agreement to the Royal Lodge in Berkshire, England, back in 2003.

The property leased included the Royal Lodge, a Gardener’s Cottage, the Chapel Lodge, six Lodge Cottages, as well as Police security accommodation and 40 hectares of land.

Prince Andrew paid for extensive refurbishing work estimated to cost £7.5 million in September 2002 prices, as part of the lease agreement.

It also provided for a premium payment of £1 million.

The Duke moved into the house in 2004, as did his two daughters.

Fast forward four years, and – in 2008 – the Duchess joined the rest of the York family in living in the property.

The Royal Lodge itself is said to have 30 rooms, and the former couple also still have joint-ownership of a chalet in Verbier, Switzerland, where Fergie is thought to still spend a lot of her time.

Speaking to Kyle Sandilands in 2016, Sarah touched on how their busy schedules meant they didn’t cross paths all that much.

“I’m in and out all the time and he’s in and out all the time,” she said.

Back in 2016, Princess Eugenie opened the doors to the otherwise relatively private grand residence for an interview and photoshoot with Harper’s Bazaar.

The publication revealed: “It’s the definition of comfy cosy, with family pictures scattered around and Norfolk terriers wandering in and out.”

From one royal residence to another, what does the home of Sophie, Countess of Wessex and Prince Edward look like?

While few photographs exist of the property, the Earl and Countess of Wessex have shared some insight into what their life in the rural Bagshot Park is like.

Most of the Royal Family are not on social media, but are represented by Kensington Palace, Buckingham Palace, or Clarence House.

Sarah’s daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, are the exception, with both joining their mother on social media.
