Piers Morgan threatens to ‘DROP’ Soccer Aid 2019 player Robert Pires after 'clown' jibe

Piers Morgan, 54, appeared to be very unimpressed when he realised one of his Soccer Aid 2019 team members, Robert Pires, 45, had made a cheeky comment about him in the press. The Good Morning Britain host took the opportunity to address the issue as his World team prepared for the big match at Stamford Bridge. While approaching the former Arsenal player, Piers filmed the awkward confrontation for his Instagram story. In view of his 607,000 followers, the assistant manager asked: “Robert, you’re in the papers because you called me a clown.

“Before I drop you, what do you want to say?”

The French football legend seemed sheepish as he replied: “I want to apologise because clown in French is like a funny guy.

“So you are the best funny guy.”

However, Piers wasn’t entirely convinced by Robert’s excuse as he insisted: “So I’m not an idiot?”

Fortunately, the sportsman clarified his comments by replying: “No I know now idiot in the UK is like a clown, but in France it’s a funny guy.”

The presenter was finally happy to resolve the dispute when he said: “So you meant that I’m just hilarious, not an idiot.”

Piers is assisting manager Harry Redknapp, 72, as he attempts to emerge victorious with the World team against the England team fronted by his GMB co-host Susanna Reid, 48, and Sam Allardyce, 64, all in aid of Unicef.

Later in the evening, Piers couldn’t resist vocally showing his support for his team, Arsenal, at Chelsea’s home ground.

During his pre-match interview on the ITV programme documenting the charity match, the star loudly recited a popular chant associated with the North London team.

His song was met with a chorus of boos from rival fans who were in the crowd to watch the game.

Piers retweeted a clip on his Twitter page which was shared by a Chelsea fan, who captioned the post: “You lost 4-1 to us 3 weeks ago. @piersmorgan.”

The mischievous TV personality then teased the supporter as he wrote in view of his six million followers: “I think the Chelsea crowd really enjoyed my Arsenal chant…”, alongside two crying laughing emojis.

Piers’ followers took to the comments section of his tweet to comment on his participation in the witty football rivalry.

One wrote: “Love it @piersmorgan.”

Another added: “You can’t control yourself.”

A third responded in reference to the boos from the audience: “People don’t realise it’s all just a bit of fun for charity unfortunately.”

Soccer Aid airs tonight from 6.30pm on ITV.
