Boxing news: David Haye gives Anthony Joshua advice after Tyson Fury fight

That’s the opinion of former heavyweight champion David Haye.

Anthony Joshua looks set to rematch Ruiz later this year in an attempt to win back his former world title straps.

The Brit suffered the first defeat of his professional career – a devastating one at that – against Mexican Ruiz on June 1.

Joshua was knocked down four times in a seven round mauling, before being waved off by the referee in dramatic fashion.

The defeat threw up a plethora of conspiracy theories about what had happened to the formidable heavy-hitter before the fight to make him appear so out of character.

Some suggested that Joshua had suffered a panic attack in the dressing room at Madison Square Garden before taking to the ring, while others claimed to have inside knowledge of a sparring incident.

The latter theory was one that stuck around, as fans predicted that the star had been knocked out in camp before the fight, explaining his black eye he carried into fight week.

Despite Joshua insisting that there were no issues, and offering no excuses for the defeat, the rumours persisted.

Now, former cruiserweight and heavyweight king Haye has offered up some advice to ‘AJ’.

He told press that he believes Joshua needs more testing in sparring, while comparing the situation to that of his earlier in his career.

“It appeared that Ruiz was more battle hardened in the battle zone and Joshua looked uncomfortable,” he said.

“I just think he needs much tougher sparring. I used to go on my own and literally spar with anybody.

“People from the street. But that hasn’t really been the case with Joshua.

“He needs to spar with all-comers who are allowed to try to knock him out.

“My sparring partners were allowed to try to knock me out if they could — and that’s what made it live.”
