World War 3: 'We're headed towards DOOM' as scientist warns climate change is like WW3

As World War 3 tensions rise in the Middle East between the US and Iran, scientists fear another global catastrophe is brewing. A climate report by the Australian think thank Breakthrough National Centre for Climate Restoration has warned climate change threatens to render the Earth uninhabitable if left unopposed. The Breakthrough report has astonishingly claimed there is a strong likelihood the world is “on a path to the end of human civilisation and modern society as we have known it”. And according to one concerned climate expert, the report’s findings need to be taken seriously if we are to avoid a fate “synonymous” to World War Three.

Dr Joanna Remiszewska-Michalak, an atmospheric physicist from Poland, is certain the scientific consensus on climate change paints a bleak picture for the future.

The climate expert said: “All of these reports have one common denominator and that is we’re heading towards doom.

“The narrative is changing somewhat because we’re no longer talking about climate change but a climate crisis.

“What’s more, there is talk of a third war, that climate change and everything that is happening can be synonymous to World War Three.

“This will not be a war in the military sense or an active one.”

The risk of climate change entails the rising of sea levels, global warming and more frequent and deadly heatwaves.

Dr Remiszewska-Michalak explained this will result in the mass displacement of climate refugees, devastate agricultural industries and create conditions for millions to “suffer”.

The scientist said: “This is already happening before our eyes and it might even exacerbate.

“Even from the perspective of a safe Poland, we can see just how much things have changed in the climate, in the weather, in our economy in the last 10 years, for example.

“I’m under the impression the last 10 years are years when we can see worsening extreme phenomena.”

Poland, alongside the UK, US, France and Germany are among the 194 signatories of the 2015 Paris Agreement.

The Paris Agreement outlines international commitments to tackling climate change and rising temperatures around the world.

The main goal of the agreement is to stop temperature rise this century below 2C degrees above pre-industrial levels.

At the same time, the agreement aims to limit global temperature rise down to just 1.5C degrees.

According to data collected by US space agency NASA, 18 of the 19 warmest years on record have occurred since 2001.

To date, 2016 ranks as the warmest year in recorded history.

NASA said: “So, the Earth’s average temperature has increased two degrees Fahrenheit during the 20th century. What’s the big deal?

“Two degrees may sound like a small amount, but it’s an unusual event in our planet’s recent history.

“Earth’s climate record, preserved in tree rings, ice cores and coral reefs shows that the global average temperature is stable over long periods of time.

“Furthermore, small changes in temperature correspond to enormous changes in the environment.”
