Liverpool transfer news: Former boss reveals how many signings Jurgen Klopp needs to make

That is according to former Liverpool manager Roy Evans.

Liverpool spent over £150million last summer bringing in Naby Keita, Alisson Becker, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri.

All four players proved valuable signings across the campaign and gave the squad depth required to challenge domestically and in Europe.

The side’s Champions League triumph was testament to the Merseyside monster which Jurgen Klopp has built, and there are not many areas left to improve in the starting XI.

That is a view echoed by Evans, who managed The Reds for four years in the 1990s after several spells as an assistant coach.

“We don’t need too many players,” he told Sky Sports.

“We have to be selective. It only needs to be players who can improve the squad.

”There doesn’t need to be huge changes and we only need to bring in players who will make a big impact.

“There is no room for getting too far ahead of ourselves.

“But I do think sooner or later we are going to win it (the Premier League).”

Only one point separated champions Manchester City and Liverpool in the league and Klopp hinted during the season that mass investment is no longer needed to progress.

“I don’t want to talk exactly what we will do, but I don’t think this is a team at the moment where we have to spend the big money or whatever,” he said in March.

“The best way to do it is bring together a group of players, try to develop them altogether and then stay together for a while.

“That was maybe the main problem of Liverpool for the last decade. When they had a good team after a season they went all over the world. That will not happen this year for sure.”
