UPDATE ONE: The number of reports of the PSN being offline and core features not working have dropped significantly within the past hour.
It appears PS4 gamers are slowly getting access back to the PSN servers, however, not everyone has been able to sign in and play games yet.
The good news is that the PSN status site now shows the PlayStation Network back online, including PS NOW services.

The official PSN site confirms issues are affecting the PlayStation Network tonight, including on PS4, PS Vita and PS3 platforms.
The good news is that PlayStation has flagged the problem and have confirmed that they are working to get things back online.
“You may have some difficulty signing in or creating an account on PlayStation Network. Our engineers are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, and we thank you for your patience,” the message from PlayStation Support reads.

“I’m in Toronto, Ontario and mine is down to! I can’t sign into the PlayStation network or play my games,” one user writes.
Another adds: “I Was playing around 4-5 hours ago, but it won’t work now. Somethings up with PSN worldwide…Hope they fix it soon…”
It’s unclear what is causing tonight’s PSN outage or how long it might take for PlayStation to fix it.
Network providers don’t like to give estimates for how long issues might last, in case it takes longer to work out the problem.
Reports from PSN users are going up right now, meaning it might take a little while for Sony to get things back to normal.
For now, it appears that all core PlayStation services have been affected.
This includes PlayStation NOW, as well as core features like being able to sign and play digital games.
