Arsenal boss Unai Emery conducts face-to-face talks: Gunners squad ‘shocked’

Arsenal failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League after finishing fifth in the Premier League.

They earned themselves another chance by reaching the Europa League final, only to be beaten 4-1 by Chelsea.

But it was a season that ultimately ended in disappointment despite looking so promising at times.

And the Mirror claim that Emery conducted a review with every member of Arsenal’s squad at the conclusion of the campaign.

It’s believed each face-to-face session lasted between 15 and 30 minutes at the club’s training ground.

Emery is believed to have held meetings with squad members at previous clubs.

However the Mirror add that the meetings came as somewhat of a “culture shock” to some members of Arsenal’s squad.

It’s claimed the meetings took place in the days after the Europa League defeat in Baku.

No players were reportedly told they had no futures at the club despite Arsenal being ready to listen to offers for several players.

The majority of the Gunners squad see the meetings as a positive with Emery pointing out what he liked and disliked as well as other aspects the players could work on.

That could be the start of a busy summer for Emery, who is known to be keen to improve his squad.

It’s going to be difficult for the Spaniard though with Arsenal on a tight budget.

The boss was only allowed to bring in loan signings in January and is likely to have a modest budget for this summer.

They have been linked with Belgian winger Yannick Carrasco, who admitted he wants to return to Europe from Chinese club Dalian Yifang.

“The whole world knows that I want to return to Europe,” he said.

“Now, it depends on the president and I hope he finds a solution.”

Asked about Arsenal he added: “I can’t speak about the club.

“Now I am not the one who chooses, but my president.

“He decides if he lets me go or not, but I hope I can come back.”
