Why Man Utd and Barcelona will find out Matthijs de Ligt transfer choice by start of July

The Ajax star has impressed this season in helping the Dutch side to the Champions League semi-finals.

De Ligt also lifted the Eredivisie trophy and reached the Nations League final with Holland.

And that has made the 19-year-old hot property with the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona linked with a move for the centre-back.

Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have all been linked as well.

De Ligt has admitted he will leave Ajax but will think about his decision on holiday.

“I still do not know what my heart says, I have been concentrated all the time in Ajax and in the national team,” he told Mundo Deportivo.

“Now in my vacations I will be able to think about it and decide what I am going to do with my future.”

When asked about joining Barcelona and why he was thinking about his options De Ligt explained he was uncertain of the timing.

He added: “Because maybe it’s not the time yet, it’s something I have to think about and decide during my vacations, nothing more.”

But the world is likely to learn De Ligt’s decision sooner rather than later because of his agent Mino Raiola.

Raiola was handed a worldwide transfer ban for three months which was set to end ended after the Premier League window closed on Thursday, August 8.

But the Court of Arbitration for Sport froze the agent’s sanctions with a full decision expected at the beginning of next month.

Raiola is allowed to continue working until the outcome is decided.

And that means De Ligt will want to find a solution as quickly as possible in order to make an exit from Ajax.

The teenager made 55 appearances for Ajax in all competitions this season, netting seven times and providing four assists from defence.

De Ligt has admitted the most important thing for him is to be playing regularly.

“For me, the most important thing is to know that in the team where I go I can have prominence and play many games,” he added.
