Ivanka Trump’s surprising link to Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer revealed

Mrs Clinton lost to Mr Trump in the 2016 Presidential Election, after the two traded verbal blows on the campaign trail. Mr Trump branded Mrs Clinton “crooked Hillary” and she in turn accused him of building his campaign on “prejudice and paranoia”. Despite this, Mr Trump’s own daughter has a surprising link to the former Secretary of State.

Ivanka’s father-in-law Charles Kushner, a real estate developer, used to make donations to Democrats.

Recipients of his donations included Mrs Clinton when she was a New York Senator, according to the 2019 book ‘Kushner Inc’.

He also reportedly made donations to the campaign of Chuck Schumer, the current Senate Minority Leader who has been a New York Senator since 1999.

Other Democrats to receive financial help from the businessman include former New Jersey Senator Robert Torricelli and former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey.

Author Vicky Ward said: “[The Kushner family] just knew that Charlie was insatiable, and that money and its trappings were not enough.

“Given [his] aspirations, it seems inevitable that Charlie got involved with politics, since real estate is so dependent on federal and municipal tax breaks, but there was also his personal ambition to consider.”

Apparently many thought he may want to become a senator himself.

However, in 2005 Mr Kushner was convicted of illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion and witness tampering.

Due to his incarceration, his son Jared took over Kushner Companies.

In 2009, Jared married Ivanka, who ran her own fashion business.

The pair are now senior advisors to the President, wielding considerable power and responsibility.

The President has been accused of nepotism, after giving both his daughter and son-in-law key roles within his inner circle.

Jared for example was put in charge of brokering peace in the Israeli-Palestine conflict, as well as making deals with foreign countries.

In March 2017, he was also given the new role of leading the ‘White House Office of American Innovation’, in which he focuses on veterans affairs, information-technology contracting and the opioid crisis.

Meanwhile Ivanka has represented the President on foreign visits and even filled in for the Secretary of State in a meeting with the South Korean foreign minister, after Rex Tillerson was fired.
