Chris Evans: Virgin radio host reveals ‘beneficial’ fact about Countdown

Chris told listeners Countdown “generates its own questions”. The 53-year-old explained that being able to make its own questions on the show is very beneficial because quiz questions cost £9 to create. He said shows can pay viewers £9 for their analysed and proven questions.

Speaking on his Virgin Radio Breakfast Show, Chris said: “Do you know how much a question for a quiz show on telly costs? Nine pounds.

“Nine pounds for an analysed, proven, evidenced question one way or the other.

“The great thing about Countdown is that is generates its own questions.

“You pick a letter, you pick a vowel, you pick a consonant, you pick another vowel.

“You get your nine letters and there’s your potential four anagrams. And you do the same in the numbers round.

“The reason that’s so beneficial to the producers and Channel 4 is they don’t have to spend money on questions.”

Chris previously revealed on his show that he doesn’t use soap.

He explained to listeners that he doesn’t “need it”.

Chris said: “You don’t need soap. You don’t need soap!

“I used to have a massive skin issue when I was younger and the doctor just said ‘don’t use soap ever again in your life’.

“Never use soap.

Vassos, you’ve been working with me for 10 years.

“Tell me the truth.

“Has it ever been an issue?”

Vassos said: “I, honestly, until this morning did not know that you didn’t use soap.”

Chris Evans Virgin Radio Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6.30am.
