Prince Philip’s birthday is TODAY – how old is he? How is his health?

Today is Prince Philip’s birthday. The Duke of Edinburgh is celebrating another milestone,

He married Her Majesty the Queen in 1947 and their marriage is now the longest of any British monarch.

The couple are actually third cousins, as Philip is also a descendant of Queen Victoria.

Although Philip is five years older than Elizabeth, who was only 13 when they met, the pair exchanged letters.

Seven years later Prince Philip asked then Princess Elizabeth’s father King George for her hand.

At the time Elizabeth was 20, and the monarch agreed to this daughter’s marriage provided the couple hold off on the nuptials until his daughter had turned 21.

The wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Philip Mountbatten took place at Westminster Abbey on 20 November. The couple then honeymooned in Scotland.

Philip has reached an age to be proud of, but he was noticeably absent for Donald Trump’s recent visit to the country.

He also did not attend the 75th-anniversary commemorations of the Normandy landings.

Philip retired from royal duties in August 2017 and so was not required to be there.

The Duke was seen recently at the wedding of Lady Gabriella and Thomas Kingston on May 18.

The 98-year-old smiled and laughed with guests at the event, looking in great spirits.

He has also met a his new Lady Gabriella and Thomas Kingston on May 18.

Recently Sophie Countess of Wessex took over a role from Prince Philip.

The Royal Family Twitter account tweeted: “The Duke of Edinburgh has officially handed over the Patronage of The Chartered Management Institute to The Countess of Wessex.

“The Duke of Edinburgh was Patron of @cmi_managers – the professional body for management and leadership – from 1992,” the Royal Family Twitter account stated.

“During that time the Institute has led the debate on the future of management and leadership, the gender pay gap, and employee wellbeing and engagement.

“The Countess is an active supporter of UK industry, and Founder and Chair of the Women’s Network Forum, an organisation which works to promote women’s success in the workplace through best practice sharing and supporting those making gender equality a reality.”

Prince Philip’s health has seemed good in recent times, although he was in hospital in April 2018.

He had a successful hip operation at Kind Edward VII hospital in Marylebone.

A spokesman for Buckingham Palace said: “The Duke of Edinburgh has undergone a successful hip replacement operation. He is progressing satisfactorily at this early stage.

“His Royal Highness is likely to remain in hospital for several days. He is comfortable and in good spirits. Further updates will be issued when appropriate.”
