Kevin Durant injury: Warriors star set for shock return in Game 5 after new development

The Warriors face a huge mountain to climb to retain their NBA title for a third consecutive season.

Toronto won both games in the Oracle Arena to take a 3-1 series lead and return home for Game 5 with a chance of winning their first ever NBA championship.

Golden State have so far had to cope without Durant, who has struggled to recover from a calf strain suffered in the series against the Houston Rockets.

He had been ruled out early on for the first four games of the NBA Finals, but there is a good chance he could return on Monday night.

Following team practice on Sunday, Durant was upgraded to questionable for Game 5 of the NBA Finals.

The Warriors had hoped the 30-year-old would scrimmage last week, but he was unable to get on the court.

But he has finally been able to get some work done on the court with the team, suggesting he could make a stunning return for Game 5.

While he did return to the practice court, Nick Friedell reports it was minimal at best.

“If KD got some work today against the rest of his teammates – it wasn’t much,” he tweeted.

“He was one of the first players back in the locker room and the Warriors weren’t on the floor very long to begin with.”

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr had previously said it would be “feasible” Durant could be ready to make his comeback after just one training session.

“It’s feasible,” Kerr said before Game 3.

“But again, it’s really a day-to-day thing.

“If we had a crystal ball, we would have known a long time ago what we were dealing with.

“It’s just an injury; there’s been a lot of grey area.”

Whether Durant makes his return will likely not be revealed until tip-off before Game 5, set to get underway on Tuesday 11th June, 2am BST.
