Andrew Scott boyfriend: Why Fleabag’s Hot Priest may NEVER get married

Andrew Scott, 42, will appear on The Graham Norton Show at 10.30pm on BBC One this evening. The Irish star is best known as playing Jim Moriarty in Sherlock, and, more recently, the love interest in Fleabag. He has previously spoken out about his feelings on gay marriage.

Scott has spoken about the tricky balance of managing his personal life in the spotlight.

He came out more than six years ago, but it’s still something heavily focused on in the media (like right now).

But while he’s private about his personal life, he’s not secretive about it.

He told Red Online: “I don’t spend my time with my family or my friends talking about this, you know.

“They don’t ask me, every time I go home, ‘How are you getting on, being gay?’ So it’s just a balance.”

He reportedly lives with his long-term partner in London, but no further details are known about him, apart from the fact that he’s not an actor.

But while he’s secretive about his own personal life, he has a lot to say about the legality of gay marriage.

Around the time of the Irish referendum in 2015, which he went home to Dublin for, he said: “People came out in droves, from all different backgrounds, to vote for love.

“And that’s essentially what it is. It also meant that the idea of being gay or bisexual was discussed by families all over Ireland.

“So it was no longer talked about in hushed tones, like, ‘Oh, I believe she has a son that’s… you know.’

“Bringing it out in the open like that, and for it to have a result like that, means that it has changed something in the genetic make-up of the country.

“I don’t think that the full depth of what has been achieved there has even unfolded yet.”

But when asked if he would ever get married himself, he said: “I’m not sure I would actually.

“Just because I’m gay doesn’t mean I have to want to get married now. It’s just an option.

“But it’s about having the same options as everyone else.

“So now a gay person has a right not to get married.”
