Roger Federer is aware of supporters' retirement worries at French Open – Severin Luthi

Luthi has been an integral part of Federer’s entourage since 2008 and travels around the world helping the Swiss star add to his impressive trophy collection.

Federer is competing at Roland Garros for the first time in four years and faces Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals.

If he loses, the 37-year-old may never return to the French Open, especially with the Olympic Games expected to congest the schedule next year.

And Luthi claims Federer knows that fans are worried they may not see him again.

“You can tell that people think, maybe Roger is playing here for the last time,” Luthi told Swiss newspaper Blick.

“But the enthusiasm is big everywhere anyway.

“Sometimes the fans are indecent and do not feel anymore, because they see nothing more than Roger – that would annoy me, because I would be less tolerant than Roger.”

Luthi also discussed some of the tricky situations he has to face being such a good friend of Federer.

“A few years ago, a driver hit the trunk lid on my head,” he added.

“He was so blown away to have Roger in the car that he did not realise how I got out the bags!

“Roger laughed – I did not think it was funny. But fortunately he is like that.”

Meanwhile, Luthi refused to go into the detail of how Federer can beat Nadal.

“I do not like talking about tactics. An adversary does not need to know what we pay attention to,” he said.

“It’s not just about Rafa’s forehand on Roger’s backhand. There is much to discuss, but not with journalists (laughs).”
