Google started its Stadia Connect Conference with a surprise reveal: the return of the Baldur’s Gate series.
Baldur’s Gate 3 was the first game shown during the Google Stadia event. Developed by Larian Studios, the third entry will be the first new full game in the series since the early 2000s.
The trailer is sparse on details about the game’s story, with only a mention of a malevolent presence returning to the Forgotten Realms and corrupting everything.
There’s currently no release date, but Google Stadia will launch in November. It’ll also make its way to the PC.
Larian Studios, best known for its Divinity: Original Sin series, gave a hint of its involvement in the Baldur’s Gate series in May when a “III” logo appeared on the developer’s site. The site’s source code revealed that the image had the file name “BaldursGate_logo_III_retouched.”
The Baldur’s Gate series started in 1998 with BioWare as its developer. The first sequel, Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn, came out in 2000 and had multiple expansions. The original game received a remake in 2012 with Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition made by Beamdog, which also did a remake of the sequel in 2013 that also received a new expansion.
