Klay Thompson injury: Golden State Warriors make surprise decision on Game 3

The Warriors overcame a mini injury crisis in Game 2 to tie up the NBA Finals 1-1 before heading back home.

Kevin Durant remains out injured, but Game 2 saw Steph Curry dealing with a mystery illness, Andre Iguodala going down for a short while and Kevon Looney also picking up an injury.

But arguably most concerning was the injury to Thompson in the fourth quarter.

After landing awkwardly following a three-point attempt, Thompson continued to play on.

However, it got to a point midway through the fourth quarter when he had to pull himself out of the game and didn’t return.

Speaking after the game, Thompson tried to downplay the hamstring issue as nothing serious and that he was confident he’d be ready to go for Game 3.

The 29-year-old has maintained that mindset just hours before tip-off in Game 3.

But ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne report the Warriors would rather Thompson not play at all in the first of their two back-to-back home games.

“Reporting with @ramonashelburne: Golden State officials prefer Klay Thompson sit out Game 3 to protect his sore hamstring for the rest of the NBA Finals,” Wojnarowski tweeted.

“But Thompson has continued to lobby them on playing tonight.

“Decision looms prior to tip.”
