  • Liverpool have entered the race to sign Ajax superstar Matthijs de Ligt
  • Manchester United and Barcelona were considered favourites
  • Lionel Messi should beat his Netherlands team-mate Virgil van Dijk to the Ballon d’Or

Adrien Rabiot swoop

Manchester United look set to battle Everton for PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

Rabiot’s contract at the Parc des Princes expires this month.

Barcelona were expected to snap the Frenchman up on a free transfer but the deal collapsed after the arrival of Frenkie de Jong.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are expected to launch an approach in the coming weeks but French outlet Le10 Sport claim Everton have held contract discussions with the player’s representatives.

Raheem Sterling’s next step

Joining Barcelona or Real Madrid is the next logical for Raheem Sterling.

That’s according to Tottenham legend Les Ferdinand, who believes the winger can reach the pinnacle of world football.

“If he continues to have the success he’s having at Manchester City, then you could see a team like Real Madrid or Barcelona being the next stepping stone for him,” Ferdinand told talkSPORT.

“When you look at some of the players playing for those teams at the moment, he’d certainly be in good company if he went to those football clubs.”

Matthijs de Ligt to Liverpool?!

Liverpool have entered the race to sign Ajax superstar Matthijs de Ligt.

That’s according to German newspaper Bild, who claim de Ligt could be Jurgen Klopp’s ‘next triumph’ after securing the Champions League title.

Manchester United and Barcelona were considered favourites to sign the 19-year-old centre-back.

However, De Ligt could soon be joining his Dutch colleague Virgil van Dijk at Anfield.

Frenkie de Jong back Lionel Messi

Frenkie de Jong says Lionel Messi should beat his Netherlands team-mate Virgil van Dijk to the Ballon d’Or.

Van Dijk was excellent again as Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-0 in the Champions League final and that’s seen him hailed as a Ballon d’Or contender.

But De Jong, who will arrive at the Nou Camp in the coming weeks, believes there’s only one winner.

”Van Dijk is a super good player who deserves to win the Golden Ball as the best football player of 2019, but to me Lionel Messi is the best and deserves to win,” he told De Telegraaf.

Julen Lopetegui to Sevilla

Sevilla have appointed Julen Lopetegui as their new manager.

Lopetegui, 52, was axed by both Spain and Real Madrid in less than a month but returns to management after a year on the sidelines.

Sevilla sacked previous manager Pablo Machin after their Europa League defeat to Slavia Prague – leaving Joaquin Caparros as interim boss.

Lionel Messi warning

Lionel Messi has warned Barcelona against signing Antoine Griezmann.

That’s according to French publication RMC Sport, who claim Messi would prefer to see Neymar return to the Nou Camp.

Griezmann confirmed that he would be leaving Barcelona last month with Barcelona the favourites to secure his services.

However, RMC Sport claim Messi told management that he’s concerned by the French international’s attitude and wants the Catalan giants to pursue Neymar instead.
