PS Plus June 2019: Great PSN news for Sony ahead of PS4 free games release

A big update concerning the PSN and the popularity of the PS Plus subscription service have been released ahead of the new PS4 free games launch for June 2019.

As fans will already know, each month sees a new list of free downloads made available by Sony PlayStation, as part of a PS Plus subscription.

It’s one of the main pieces of the PlayStation Network and a considerable revenue driver for Sony PlayStation.

Not only does it allow the company to secure a stable monthly income from their console users, but it also provides a fair amount of free advertising.

And it was recently revealed that the PSN has grown in size when it comes to active users.

Sony has now confirmed that over 94 million active users are clocking time on the PlayStation Network.

Using combined figures from the likes of the PS4, PS3 and PS Vita, it appears that the tech giant has struck a winning formula for their Store and UI ecosystem.

According to the latest figures released by Sony, over 90% of all consoles ever have connected over the last 12 months.

It was also revealed that gamers used the PS4 console for over 21 hrs per week on average.

And how has that been affecting the consumer spend of gamers? Well, Sony estimates that this has hit over $20bn for the first time in Fiscal Year 2018.

This suggests an impressive lifetime spend for those who have stayed loyal to the PlayStation console brand and used the PSN consistently over the past couple of years.

These figures show how important the PSN is and why Sony is putting such a heavy emphasis on the importance of things like PS Plus each month.

Players are certainly sticking with the PS Plus subscription service in 2019, with over 30 million using it to play multiplayer online and claim free PS4 games to play.

And it won’t be long before the next crop of free titles are released on the PlayStation Store.

It would be interesting to learn if these events and monthly launches create a spike in PSN interactions on consoles.

You would think that downloading a free PS4 game would mean less skimming through the PS Store, but just giving fans a reason to turn on and check each month is probably a massive traffic driver.

As mentioned above, the free PS Plus games for June 2019 have already been confirmed as including two titles for the PlayStation 4.

Starting Tuesday, June 4, PS Plus subscribers will be able to download and play Sonic Mania and Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.

The Handsome Collection contains two games, so gamers are actually getting three different titles to play in June.

The Borderlands bundle includes Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, as well as all the DLC content associated with both games.

An added bonus being that if you played either title on PS3, your game save would carry over.

Anyone who hasn’t grabbed them yet, both Overcooked and What Remains of Edith Finch can be downloaded before the big PlayStation Store refresh.

Fans will also want to keep an eye out during June 2019 for anyone big news concerning new demos and trials being released on the PS4 and PlayStation Store.
