Nintendo News: Good news for Switch fans ahead of Legend of Zelda E3 2019 updates

The Nintendo Switch is proving to be a popular choice with gamers in 2019, with a new sales update showing that the next 12 months could be massive for the console.

Nintendo news this week has revealed that the Switch is on course to surpass both the Wii U and 3DS.

While Nintendo’s Wii U was a disaster both in terms of sales and third-party software, the 3DS is an entirely different animal.

Seeing Nintendo through good times and harder ones, it was only after the Nintendo Switch and started building momentum that the 3DS started to drop in popularity.

And new data this week supports the idea that 2019 could see the Switch hit new milestones when compared to former Nintendo hardware.

According to VGChartz, the sales gap between the Switch and the combined sales of the 3DS and Wii U grew by 784,752 units, in favour of the two consoles.

This is based on the same timeframe but comes with another massive update, which is that in the last 12 months the gap has grown in favour of the Nintendo Switch by 653,065 units.

So while the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U have sold over 3.84 million more units than the Switch at this time, the general trend is following the Switch.

It seems third-party developers can rule out the idea that the Switch will drop in popularity in 2019, especially considering the support analysts have given it to be the best selling console this year.

Unless there is a massive reverse in hardware fortunes in May 2019, the Switch looks set to remain the best selling console.

A good way for Nintendo to keep hardware sales going into the busy holiday season will be to announce and launch new exclusive games.

So what new gaming projects could be announced by Nintendo and their partners during E3 2019?

The company doesn’t always rely on their June live stream event to provide big news on their upcoming launch schedule.

A Pokemon Sword and Shield Direct is being broadcast next week, freeing up the E3 showcase for more news.

And this could include more news for The Legend of Zelda franchise, which is expanding in new ways.

We already know that Zelda spin-off game, Cadence of Hyrule, is launching later this month.

Nintendo revealed the news earlier this week, confirming that the indie-developed side project would be arriving June 2019.

“In the latest rhythmic action-adventure from Brace Yourself Games, you can enjoy the gameplay of Crypt of the Necrodancer in the setting of The Legend of Zelda series,” a message from Nintendo confirms.

“As Link—or even as Princess Zelda—you’ll explore the randomly generated overworld and dungeons on a quest to save Hyrule. Every beat of each remixed, The Legend of Zelda tune is a chance to move, attack, defend, and more, so stay one step ahead of each enemy and boss…or face the music.

“From modern-looking Lynels to the Hyrulean Soldiers of old, you must master the instinctive movements of each pixel-art enemy, and strategically outstep them in rhythmic combat.”

There are also rumours that Wii U HD ports for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are coming to Nintendo Switch.

These would be just the latest Wii U ports created by Nintendo for their new handheld console and would mean a lot of Legend of Zelda news for E3.

If they are being planned for release in 2019, we can expect them to be announced during the LA expo.

If they are not, it means fans may have to wait until after the big event to find out what new Zelda games are coming to the Switch next.
