Ariana Grande Had To Cancel Two Shows After Finding Out She’s Allergic To Tomatoes

From Delish

A moment of silence for all the pasta, pizza, and caprese salads Ariana Grande is no longer able to eat. After cancelling two Florida shows this week, Ari explained to fans a newfound allergy is to blame. In a post Wednesday, the singer wrote this as the caption to a video of her adorable new pup:

update: we discovered ….. that ….. i had an unfortunate allergic reaction to tomatoes and my throat pretty much closed. still feels like i’m swallowing a cactus but slowly making progress! thank u all for your love and understanding. can’t wait to get back to performing and to make it up to Tampa and Orlando in November.

Re: swallowing a cactus, OUCH. That does not sound pleasant. Ariana ended the post by saying “p.s. there is NOTHING MORE UNFAIR THAN AN ITALIAN WOMAN DEVELOPING AN ALLERGY TO TOMATOES IN HER MID TWENTIES…….”

That is…disastrous. Especially since Ariana doesn’t seem to eat a ton of dairy, given her Starbucks order, so it’s not like she can just switch to a creamy pasta sauce instead. I’ve clearly given this too much thought, so let’s move on to the whole allergy thing: Yes, you can develop food allergies later in life.

Per the Mayo Clinic, while most allergies start in childhood, they can develop or worsen at any stage of life. Similarly, children can outgrow allergies and then have them redevelop later in life. As for tomato allergies, people who are sensitive to the fruit are also prone to allergic reactions with other nightshades, including potatoes, tobacco, and eggplant, Healthline says.

Symptoms of an allergic reaction to tomatoes can include swelling of the throat, face, mouth, or tongue (like Ariana experienced), skin rash, abdominal cramps or nausea, and coughing, sneezing, or runny nose.

As Ariana said in her post, the two cancelled shows, which were scheduled in Tampa and Orlando, have been rescheduled to November 24 and 25, respectively.
