US-Iran tensions ERUPT as Supreme leader refuses to negotiate with Trump

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei declared Iran will not negotiate with US President Donald Trump. Mr Khamenei said negotiations with the US are “of no use” and “harmful”. Tensions between the two countries have increased since Trump withdrew from the nuclear deal with the Islamic Republic.

Mr Khamenei wrote on Twitter: “By returning to the negotiation table, they mean negotiating with US. We won’t negotiate with Americans.

“There’s no use negotiating and it’s even harmful.

“Otherwise we have no problems negotiating with others and with Europeans.”

In a further tweet, he added: “We won’t negotiate on the core issues of the Revolution.

“Negotiations on this issue implies trading; that is, they mean we give up on our defensive capabilities.

“We won’t negotiate our military capability.”

Mr Khameni’s refusal to cooperate with the US comes a week after he threatened the country.

In an incendiary speech, Khamenei insisted the US will retreat from any further moves against the Islamic Republic due to the Iranian people’s resolve.

Mr Khamenei said: “In this showdown America will be forced to retreat because our resolve is stronger.

“The definite decision of the Iranian nation is to resist against America.”

He added: “They should not try to test the determination of Iran to confront any escalation in the region.

“This face-off is not military because there is not going to be any war.”
