EE is about to launch a huge upgrade but Three is fighting back with another ultimate deal

EE will turn on its 5G network on Thursday, May 30, in what is expected to mark the next-generation of mobile internet.

At a launch event in London last week, Marc Allera, CEO of BT’s Consumer division, said: “This is the start of the UK’s 5G journey and great news for our customers that want and need the best connections.

“We’ve started with 5G in some of the busiest parts of the UK, the widest range of 5G devices in the UK, and plans that give customers the best mobile connection and great benefits.

“We’re upgrading more than 100 sites to 5G every month from today to connect more places to what 5G can enable.”

5G has been discussed by industry officials for some time; the new technology has been tipped to deliver speeds over one gigabit-per-second by many.

EE has declared customers are likely to experience a speed boost between 100Mbps and 150Mbps in even the busiest areas.

Initially, the firm is launching 5G in London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham and Manchester but has promised to quickly expand the number of areas capable of delivering rapid speeds.

The UK network has also announced 5G smartphone plans will cost from £54 per month for a 10GB allowance and rise to £74 per month for 120GB.

EE will also offer SIM only 5G tariffs.

While the prospect of harnessing the power of 5G will surely be incredibly tempting for many, Three is attempting to counter EE with an alluring SIM only offer.

The firm is selling a SIM with unlimited data, unlimited minutes and unlimited texts for £20 per month on a 24-month advanced plan.

That means customers can binge on as many TV shows and stream as much music as they want without needing to worry about incurring any extra data charges.

Moreover, users are also free to use their smartphone as a personal hotspot as much as they want.

For those that do not want to be tied to a 24-month tariff, Three is also offering the same deal but on a 12-month advanced plan.

While this SIM only plan costs slightly more at £22 per month, it will surely be incredibly appealing for those that want added flexibility.
