Roger Federer spotted with Kylian Mbappe as PSG star makes French Open visit

Federer had a day off ahead of his second-round clash with Oscar Otte on Wednesday and trained with Japanese star Kei Nishikori in the morning.

And it appears he spent the afternoon with Mbappe, who has been doing the rounds at major sporting events.

Federer posed for a picture with Mbappe holding up a France national team shirt.

At the weekend, Paris Saint-Germain forward Mbappe was at the Monaco Grand Prix as a guest of Ferrari.

For Federer, he returns to action tomorrow, looking to build on his impressive start against Lorenzo Sonego in the first round.

And the Swiss says he is reveling in being an outsider for the tournament.

“It’s nice to be an outsider. That’s how I feel, anyhow,” Federer said.

“Just see how it goes. I know when Wimbledon comes around, sure, I’ll be probably a higher favourite.

“That’s OK, too. I’m happy that I’m there where I am.

“This is not a show I’m putting on. This is the truth.

“I really don’t know how far I can go in this event, and I am very happy with my first round. It was a really good performance.”

Federer also opened up on why he continues to enjoy playing.

“I love the ATP Tour,” he said. “There is much more to it than just the Slams. I know sometimes, especially now, as we are at a Grand Slam, people are only talking about Grand Slams, but the majority of my tournament wins come elsewhere.

“I love to play. The traveling, to me, doesn’t bother me too much. I feel like I have a lot of friends around the world, so it’s nice to see them as well.

“I think that’s also helpful, going to places and getting to see my old friends I only see maybe once a year.

“[I’m] just very happy with how things are going on the Tour.”
