Rachel Riley, 33, was asked about vegan barbecues on today’s episode of Countdown by host Nick Hewer.
Revealing it’s national BBQ week, he moaned to the mathematician: “All these BBQs in the back garden fired up by people who ruin perfectly good sausages and chops and the rest of it, I think it’s awful.”
He asked: “What about vegan BBQs? I suppose you can have beautiful vegan BBQs.”
Rachel replied: “Yeah I’ve recently discovered vegan halloumi, which tastes like halloumi and it’s lovely, very nice, not quite as good as normal halloumi.”
The star, who has been vegan for a couple of years now, revealed the reason why she can’t eat the popular type of cheese.
She said: “But my belly can’t take that so I’ll stick with the vegan stuff.”
The Countdown star has previously revealed switching to a vegan diet had eased her health issues which she had suffered with for years.
In a recent interview, Rachel explained how she originally tried out a vegan diet after suffering from sickness and stomach problems following meals.
“For a large part of my life, I’ve had intolerances and been sick with food,” she told Live Kindly. “I was a vegetarian for maybe six months a few years ago and I felt so ill.
“It was because whenever I was working and out, the veggie options were always things like pasta, cheese, rice and pies — really heavy stuff that was making me feel rubbish.”
On the board, the letters spelled “R TINY MATE”, an anagram of “maternity”.
Rachel captioned the sweet image: “Pash and I have a conundrum for you…you have till December to work it out!
“We’re over the moon excited.”
After being inundated with messages from friends and fans, Rachel added in the comment section: “Overwhelmed by all these lovely comments!
“Thanks everyone, let the growing continue!”
Countdown airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 2.10pm.
