Debbie McGee: Strictly star reveals Britain’s Got Talent loyalties amid Paul Daniels link

Debbie McGee, 60, took to Twitter yesterday to reveal she’s rooting for her friend, magician John Archer, to get through to this year’s final of Britain’s Got Talent 2019.

The BBC Berkshire radio host, who was married to the late Paul Daniels, said she would be voting for her pal as she wished him luck for this week’s semi-final.

She wrote on Twitter: “I will be voting for @TheArchini my pal John Archer on @BGT Anyone that has seen his act knows how good and how funny he is.

“Best of luck John.”

John replied referring to Debbie’s late husband: “Thank you Debbie. So kind. I wish Paul was around to watch and tease me about it. Xx.”

Some of Debbie’s 41,500 Twitter followers appeared to agree with her statement as one person commented: “He is BRILLIANT!! So pleased for him!”

Another said: “He was really good, glad he got through. Don’t know how he did it.”

John, 58, impressed the judges, Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon with his magic routine during the audition round.

The former school liaison officer with Cleveland Police became a full time magician in 1996.

John, whose from Teeside, has had many TV appearances including showing off his comedy and magic skills in front of American magicians Penn and Teller on their show Fool Us in 2011.

He has also starred on comedy impressionist John Culshaw’s series, The Impressionable John Culshaw in 2004.

John revealed he will be on tomorrow’s semi-final of the ITV show as he wrote on Twitter today: “What? Tomorrow is my birthday and I’m in the semi-final of BGT… Oh come on!

“The same day? That’s gotta be worth a vote. #BGT #VoteArcher @BGT.”

Meanwhile, on last night’s first semi-final of the week, police dog and his handler, Dave and Finn, won the public’s vote to go through to the grand final.

The judges voted for Flakefleet Primary School over horror-themed magician The Haunting to be the second act in this weekend’s final.

Also on the show last night, Alesha, confirmed she is expecting her second child with her partner Azuka Ononye.

The singer revealed the news by appearing in a figure-hugging dress on the programme which drew attention to her burgeoning bump.

Alesha said she was “over the moon” to be expecting a little one, after hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly announced her pregnancy during the introduction of the show.

The former Miss Teeq band member already has a five-year-old daughter, Azura, with her beau, Azuka.

The next Britain’s Got Talent 2019 semi-final airs tonight on ITV at 7.30pm.
