Alexander Zverev: Tennis fans back German ace to beat John Millman at the French Open

Fifth seed Zverev is expected to overcome Australian John Millman in the French Open’s opening Day 3 fixture on centre court.

German Zverev comes into the first round tie after winning the Geneva Open this week.

But, Millman thinks he could turn the match to his advantage the longer it goes on.

While Millman could provide a challenge for Zverev, fans are backing the German to make it into the next round.

One fan wrote on Twitter: “Alexander #Zverev is playing insanely well. Watch out world, our boy is back! [for good, hopefully].”

Another said: “Alexander Zverev has won 15 straight 1st round matches against older opponents. He has an 87.7 per cent chance to beat John Millman.”

Another fan simply wrote: “I am a huge fan of Alexander Zverev.”

“You got this #Zverev,” said another.

Meanwhile, fans also expected Zverev to overcome the challenge of Millman, and progress to the next round.

“Alexander Zverev begins another Grand Slam with big expectations and needing to deliver,” a fan wrote on Twitter.

Zverev’s Geneva triumph provided him with a fresh confidence boost as he headed into the French Open.

While he wasn’t at his best – he had three consecutive three set matches against Hugo Dellien, Federico Delbonis and Nicolas Jarry – he fought until the end of every match, which ultimately helped him to claim his first title of the season.

The Geneva victory came after a sharp drop in form by the German ace, which lasted the first five months of the year.

Meanwhile, Millman has had a topsy-turvy season, making two quarter-finals in Sydney and Acapulco.

But, he’s also had six opening round defeats this year, and has lost more matches than he’s won on clay.

His indifferent 2019 form has seen him drop from 38th in the world to 56th, but he’s still likely to make things tough for Zverev today.
