The Walking Dead season 10 spoilers: Star reveals regret over romance that NEVER happened

Despite the potential for many important storylines, The Walking Dead showrunners killed off Jesus in the midseason finale of season nine.

Many people, including star Tom, felt the character was killed off too soon and had not fulfilled his potential from the comics the AMC show is based on.

Storylines from the comics are sometimes used by the show and some are adapted.

One story that was not given chance to develop has been lamented by Tom in a Twitter post.

Fans were discussing the comic’s issue 173 in which Jesus (real name Paul) and Aaron (played by Ross Marquand) fight off Whisperers leader Beta and wanted more from the duo.

One fan tweeted: “More of Paul and Aaron.”

Tom then quoted the tweet and regretfully bemoaned: “What could have been.”

The pair were in a relationship in the comics, but it was a story that was never truly made into reality on the TV show.

Just friends in the adaptation, the actor is clearly frustrated their relationship was not developed further and turned into the romantic one from the comics.

Instead, he was the first victim of the Whisperers’s reign of terror, which continued to rage throughout the rest of season nine.

Aaron star Ross also has also previously said he would have loved for the storyline to be taken from the comics and adapted in the show.

He told Comicbook.com: “I would have liked to have hooked up with Jesus.”

If the comics had been more closely followed, Jesus could have also played a huge role in the destiny of The Walking Dead and prevent the future deaths of certain stars.

The TV series failed to adapt two key comic book moments for Jesus: the defeating of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and then catching a grenade and throwing back at the Saviors in their attack on Alexandria, saving countless lives.

Tom has previously revealed the changes to Jesus’s storylines were a source of, “a lot of my depression at times”.

However, he has also previously said: “They gave me a very different beginning in the show, which was awesome, I loved that, and the fight with Lennie was great.

“Then the end, I thought the end was one of the [best] moments in the show, and I’m really happy to have left my mark in that way.”

Jesus’s death coincided with a number of high-profile cast departures that have left gaps in the cast.

Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) and Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) are both alive but not a part of the show.

Meanwhile, Rick could be set for a huge Fear the Walking Dead crossover.

The Walking Dead season 10 premieres on AMC and FOX in October 2019.
