United are said to be weighing up a move for the centre-back sensation while he remains a target for Barcelona.
De Ligt, 19, is set to leave Ajax after 11 years and is currently the hottest property on the market
He will have his choice of clubs if he does decide to move on with the likes of Manchester City and Juventus expected to challenge for his signature as well.
Barcelona remain favourites to get him having already agreed a deal to sign Ajax team-mate Frenkie de Jong in the summer.
However, he insists he does not have a preference as he insisted he only ever dreamed of turning out in the red and white of his boyhood club.
“Of course a lot is being written,” he said. “I think it has been like that all year long and I am not being fooled by it.
“I am not so worried that so many have been written. Frenkie de Jong already knows that he is going to a new club. Not me yet. That’s it.”
Asked whether he had a dream club, he replied: “It is not one club that is interested, no.
“Whether I have a dream club? No, I don’t really have a dream club outside of Ajax. It was always my dream to play at Ajax.
“I succeeded and I’m happy about that.
On his potential next move, he added: “I look at what I think is the best for my career, where I can develop the best, where I can make the most playing minutes … On that I base my choice.”
De Ligt is already captain of Ajax despite his tender years and helped them to a domestic double and the Champions League semi-final this season.
With United desperate for a new centre-back, signing De Ligt would represent a massive coup and club legend Jaap Stam has urged his fellow Dutchman to seriously consider a switch to Old Trafford.
“I think he would suit very well over here [at United] if they’re trying to pick him up,” he said.
“I’m not sure if that’s the truth of course because a lot of things have been said and been written.
“But he’s a player that absolutely fits in here.”
