Jeremy Clarkson, 59, took to Twitter and joked Conservative Party backbencher Esther McVey’s “hair” would make a “great prime minister”. The Grand Tour host uploaded a snap of the politician after he made the comment. In view of his 7.16 million followers, he wrote: “Right. I’ve had a good look at the candidates and what I want in Number 10 is Esther McVey’s hair. It is superb.” The former Top Gear star included a follow-up tweet, writing: “Look at it! That hair is fantastic and would be a great prime minister. #voteforesthershair.”
Fans rushed to comment on the post, with many hinting the TV star should be a candidate.
One person commented: “I’m calling it now. @JeremyClarkson for PM. No.10 would suit him @thegrandtour.”
Another person quipped: “How about a coalition between @JeremyClarkson @MrJamesMay and @RichardHammond?” referring to his Grand Tour co-stars.
Jeremy’s “hair” candidate admission comes after Theresa May announced her departure from Number 10 where she broke down in an emotional speech.
She confirmed she will depart her position on June 7.
A new Conservative leader will be selected in due course with Theresa taking on a caretaker role until then.
Various members of the Tory government have declared their intention to bid for party leadership including Esther McVey, Dominic Raab, Michael Gove and Boris Johnson.
Following Theresa’s resignation speech, celebrities have commented on her decision.
Good Morning Britain host, Piers Morgan uploaded a picture of the Conservative leader and wrote: “Thanks for nothing.”
While Gary Lineker was a little more sympathetic towards the now ex-Prime Minister.
He wrote: “Whether you like her or not the truth is, Theresa May had an impossible job trying to deliver the impossible: a deal to leave that satisfied everyone’s version of what leave actually meant.
“The baton will be handed on and dropped again.”
The Match of The Day host added: “We live in dangerous times. No deal creeps closer.”
Meanwhile, the Grand Tour host is set to embark on a new programme where he will swap cars for farming.
Jeremy announced he will front his new Amazon Prime show, I Bought A Farm, where he will give a rare insight into his life in Chipping Norton where he owns 1,000 acres.
Speaking to the Sunday Times, he said: “This is not Kate Humble – much as I like Kate Humble – with 20 acres, bottle-feeding a lamb.
“Or a TV presenter who grows veg in his back garden. This is actual farming. Life, death and form filling.”
The host added: “We’re not making Countryfile. We’ll be showing it warts and all.
“For example, I have no view on badger culling in terms of whether it’s necessary, but if it’s happening, we will not shy away from putting it in the programme.”
