Galaxy Note 9 update – Three controversial changes that Samsung could launch soon

Galaxy Note 9 launched back in August last year and it is presumed its successor could be unwrapped at around the same time in 2019.

As the anticipated debut date of the Note 10 draws closer, rumours appear to be heating up surrounding its design and some of the features it could tout.

However, while many tipped additions have been welcomed by the Samsung faithful, others have proved to be much more controversial.

So without further ado, here is Express.co.uk’s guide to some of the most divisive alterations the Note 10 could make.

All-screen design but not as you know it

It has been heavily rumoured the Galaxy Note 10 will borrow from the South Korean tech giant’s S10 series by reducing borders in favour of an all-screen design.

In fact, renowned tipster OnLeaks recently took to Twitter to declare the Note 10 will have a “centred hole punch selfie camera”.

This claim has seemingly been corroborated by Ice Universe that has said he expects a “change” to the Note 10’s “front camera position”.

If true, such a move could mark a huge divergence from the S10 series that featured a cutout on each model off to the right-hand side of the hardware.

Designer Ben Geskin recently put together concept images of what the Note 10 could look like with a single and dual selfie array.

In response to the photos, many Android fans expressed their disappointment on Twitter.

One said: “Disappointing design.”

A second remarked: “Much prefer the S10 location as having the hole in the middle in such a low position is more obstructive.”

Another declared: “Ew get the hole back on the right.”

No headphone jack

Back in October last year, it was reported by South Korean outlet ETNews the Note 10 could arrive without a headphone jack.

Citing an industry official familiar with the matter, the publication stated there was “no detailed reason” why Samsung is considering dismissing the age-old port.

Although other manufacturers have slowly been removing the 3.5 millimetre jack from their devices in recent years, Samsung has remained loyal to it.

In fact, all models of the firm’s new Galaxy S10 series all feature the port.

If the Note 10 does come without a headphone jack later this year, it is likely the move would come as a huge disappointment to many Samsung fans that have not fully transitioned to wireless earphones.

No physical buttons

ETNews has also reported the Note 10 could also arrive without any physical keys whatsoever.

Instead, the publication has said the hardware could harness touch sensors and rely on gestures to perform certain functions.

Unfortunately, the publication did not discuss why Samsung could be considering such a design decision.
