Do these pictures show what Sir Alex Ferguson thinks of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Man Utd?

Ferguson and Solskjaer were both in high spirits at Old Trafford today as Manchester United Legends took part in a charity match against Bayern Munich All-Stars.

The celebratory game was organised to mark the 20th anniversary of the 1999 Champions League final which saw United complete an unlikely treble.

Goals from Teddy Sheringham and Solskjaer in injury time at the Nou Camp saw the Red Devils come from behind to beat the Bundesliga giants.

Ferguson took charge of a star-studded side for today’s fixture, with the starting XI almost identical to the line-up from two decades ago.

And current United boss Solskjaer rolled back the years by opening the scoring in the exhibition game, having come on as an early substitute.

Dwight Yorke added a second while Louis Saha, Nicky Butt and David Beckham were also on target for Ferguson’s side in front of a packed stadium.

The match was played in great spirit despite the lop-sided 5-0 scoreline, with all the proceeds going to the Manchester United foundation.

And United fans will have been pleased to see Ferguson appear to give his seal of approval to Solskjaer after the Norwegian was substituted.

The legendary boss allowed Solskjaer to take his place in the manager’s chair on the bench, conceding the spot which he always sat in during his 27-year tenure at the club.

Supporters could take this is a sign that Ferguson approves of his appointment, relinquishing the hot-seat at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’.

Earlier in the season, Solskjaer took offence when Alexis Sanchez sat in his place – and Ferguson avoided a similar awkward situation by moving along the row.

Solskjaer has endured a tough time at United since taking over from Jose Mourinho at the turn of the year, overseeing an impressive unbeaten run before a nosedive in form as his side managed only two wins in their final 13 matches of the season.

And now Solskjaer, who has been handed the manager’s position permanently on a three-year deal at the club, is expected to overhaul his squad in the summer transfer window.

Paul Pogba has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in a potential swap deal with Paulo Dybala and Alex Sandro.

Meanwhile, Solskajer will do well to keep hold of David de Gea but is also looking to shift plenty of dead weight in order to free up space on the wage bill.

Therefore the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku could be moved on as Solskjaer puts his trust in the United youth academy graduates such as Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard – both of who were present at the Legends game this afternoon.
