11.40 UPDATE: Timo Werner ‘unlikely’ to join Bayern

Timo Werner is unlikely to join Bayern Munich, according to RB Leipzig boss Ralph Rangnick.

And that could leave the path open for Liverpool to swoop in.

“I would not be so sure that Werner will actually go to Bayern,” Rangnick told Sport Bild.

“If Bayern were absolutely sure about Timo, they would have already officially contacted us with a request.

“Anything else would be unusual for Bayern, especially since we have a good relationship with them.

“Our position has not changed: we do not want him to go into the last year of his contract without an extension.”

09.35 UPDATE: Solskjaer ‘should sign Grealish’

Robbie Savage has urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to make Jack Grealish his first summer signing.

“If I were Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the first signing on my list this summer would be Jack Grealish,” Savage told the Mirror.

“If the rumours are true, and Manchester United are looking at Swansea’s Daniel James and Newcastle prospect Sean Longstaff as possible signings, I would go for Grealish ahead of them.

“Even if Aston Villa win promotion on Monday, Grealish is the player I would move heaven and earth to wear the red shirt of United. As the best player in the Championship, he would cost a lot for Solskjaer to buy.

“But Grealish glides past opponents, took on the Villa captaincy at a young age and thrived on the responsibility.

“Jack’s the lad. He’s the one United should be looking to sign ahead of anyone else.”

08.40 UPDATE: City need De Ligt – Hamann

Didi Hamann reckons there is only one player who could replace Vincent Kompany at Manchester City.

“City have got a huge hole to fill after Kompany’s exit and to my mind there’s only one candidate – Matthijs de Ligt,” he told the Racing Post.

“There are those who say he is too young but I don’t buy into that. Sometimes you just come across a freak and that’s what De Ligt is – a 19-year-old who is built like a 25-year-old and plays like a 30-year-old.

“He has led Ajax into some of football’s cauldrons this season and is an absolute born leader. He is the man who can carry Kompany’s baton forward.”

Manchester United are still to take up an extension on Regan Poole’s deal ahead of his League two playoff final with Newport.

“United have an option to take up an extension, but I’m not really too sure what their plan is for me,” Poole told The Sun.

“If they take it up then I will stay there, but if not I’ll move on. Everyone knows it’s hard at a big club so when my season is over I’ll find out.

“I’m enjoying my football with Newport, but I’ve spoken to United’s loan manager. He comes to watch all my games and gives reports back to United on how I’m doing.

“They are happy with how my loan is going. Hopefully it’s all positive for me there. Wembley will be a big stage and there will be a lot of people watching. Hopefully I can have a good game.

“I’m at United at the end of the day and I’d love to stay there as long as possible.”

06.45 UPDATE: Manchester United eye Griezmann deal

Manchester United have re-entered the race to sign Antoine Griezmann.

The France star is set to leave Atletico Madrid with Barcelona the big favourites to land him.

But United are now in the race and could trigger his release clause.

The Independent report this morning key figures in European football believe that Old Trafford is Griezmann’s most likely next destination.

Any deal would make him United’s record signing – eclipsing the £90m spent on Paul Pogba in 2016.
