OnePlus 7 update – Some of this phone's best features are coming to the OnePlus 6T

OnePlus 7 Pro is most notable for the new hardware additions it brings to the table.

Chief of these is a pop-up style selfie camera that emerges from the top of the device.

However, the handset also comes with a premium 6.67-inch display that has a somewhat unique 90Hz refresh rate and a sky-high resolution of 1440×3120.

Finally, the device also boasts a triple camera system that makes for an incredibly diverse photography experience.

But while the OnePlus 7 Pro’s hardware is certainly a huge reason Android fans will find it tempting, the handset also debuted a couple of handy software improvements, too.

The first of these is what the Chinese tech powerhouse calls “Zen Mode” that turns off all the device’s features but still allows for calls to come through.

OnePlus 7 Pro’s camera is also available when the mode is enabled.

Zen Mode incentivises Android fans to take a 20-minute break from using their device to clear their mind.

A timer will be present on the hardware alerting users how long they have left until their device will be ready to use as normal once more.

The second handy software feature offered by the OnePlus 7 Pro comes in the form of its built-in screen recorder.

While other Android OEM’s, such as Huawei, have already implemented such a feature into their respective skins, the addition marks the first time OnePlus owners have been able to capture what they are up to instantaneously.

Once a clip has been taken using the screen recorder, it can be shared with friends and family.

Following the 7 Pro’s debut, some Android fans managed to install the two software features on their older OnePlus devices by downloading applicable APK files.

An APK (Android Package) file is software that can be downloaded for smartphones that run the Google operating system.

Essentially, this format refers to apps that are obtained outside of the Play Store.

In a recent forum post, OnePlus has insisted both the built-in screen recorder and Zen Mode are “not fully integrated” with older hardware yet, meaning those that download applicable APK files “may face some issues” when using them.

The Chinese tech giant announced its plans to release both features for the OnePlus 6T, OnePlus 6, OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5 and will start the process by debuting them in a new open beta build for the 6T and 6 next week.

A OnePlus staff member named Crystal wrote: “We have received some feedback from users who have installed the Screen Recorder and Zen Mode on the OnePlus 5/5T/6/6T. The results turn out to be that when you are using Screen Recorder, there is no sound coming out when you play the game and listen to the music, or that there will still be notification reminders when you are in Zen Mode.

“After checking with the team, the reasons are that current Screen Recorder and Zen Mode are only compatible with the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro and are not fully integrated with previous models. If you install these apps on other phone models, you may face some issues while using it. We recommend that you do not install and use the 2 applications until we fit them to the OnePlus 5/5T/6/6T.

“We plan to release Screen Recorder and Zen Mode in next week’s open beta build for OnePlus 6/6T. And the software team is also working on the adaptation of these two applications on the OnePlus 5/5T and the stable build.”
